Hot Air Balloons

Having worked for many years in Bath on a consultancy basis, one of my tasks is hot air balloon licences for BANES.  Through this work I have met many great balloon pilots and I have had the great pleasure to fly in hot air balloons.  This is a great achivement for someone scared of heights!

I would just like to mention a few of the great companies that operate out of Bath:

Hot Skies Ltd operators of the Virgin Balloon Flights passenger carrying balloon in the South West.

Hot Skies Ltd operate the Virgin passenger ride balloon in the South West - Pilot Mark Simmons ('Nobby')

Nobby has been a balloon pilot for 26 years, which includes special shaped balloons and flying in many countries.

Since 2007 Nobby has spent the winter months flying for Balloons over Bagan in Myanmar, but he always returns to fly from local sites, during the summer months.  In 2014 Nobby became Chief Pilot for the operation.

Bailey Balloons

Clive set up Bailey Balloons in 1994 with his wife Jo, also a Commercial balloon pilot, one of four women in the U.K. to fly the larger balloons, and both are qualified instructors.

Clive has flown balloons all over Europe, the Middle East, the United States and Africa.  He is the first European to fly balloons in Iran where he also trained their first balloon pilots. Clive holds the altitude record from the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta when he flew his balloon up to 22,5000 in 1994.  Jo accompanied Clive as his co-pilot.

Clive also loves planning and executing ballooning stunts, including Flying stuntman and balloon pilot Ian Ashpole on top of the Discovery Channel balloon, flying two balloons attached together by a tight rope and having fellow pilot Mike Howard walk between the balloons blindfolded at 3,500 feet.

Bath Balloons

In 2008, together with his wife Gabby, Nic Amor bought Bath Balloons and became MD.

Mike Evans with over 2500 hours flying experience and now a Civil Aviation Authority Examiner is the Chief Pilot for Bath Balloons and is often seen over the skies of Bath.

E-mail from Bath Balloons - 16.02.18

I was delighted to receive an e-mail from Bath Balloons, stating that they had designed this wraparound banner for the G-HFVB balloon basket which included one of my photographs, the lovely one with the burner flaring.

They hoped I had no objection to it being used in this manner.  It was an honour!
